As most of you know these events don’t just happen, so a big thank-you to the team for the expert planning behind the scenes to ensure such a fantastic, organised day. Also, to my sister and brother-in-law who come to help each year with the scoring, it is much appreciated.”

The event raised £3,931.14 which is all going to “Dementia Sings Out”, a Community Choir, based in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

At the presentation dinner, Ruth Bowe, gave a lively talk, about the work of the Choir. The presentation included singing and some very uplifting stories of how the choir is helping people with dementia.

This community choir was inspired by the recent BBC One television programme, Our Dementia Choir with Vicky McClure. This two-part documentary highlights the challenges faced with having to live with dementia. The programme follows members of the choir and shows how singing can help.

The work of Deafblind UK.

Deafblindness is the loss of sight and hearing to the point where someone’s communication, mobility or ability to access information are impacted. Living with deafblindness can be frightening, lonely and confidence-draining. It often brings with it additional challenges. Like mental processing issues and can quickly lead to feelings of isolation and depression.

For over 90 years, the charity has been providing vital support to people who are deafblind. Helping them to live the life they want.

Presently, there are around 400,000 people living with deafblindness in the UK today. Due to an ageing population, this number is bound to rise.

How you can support Rachel

Furthermore, if you would like to find out more about Deafblind UK and to donate to Rachel’s charitable fundraising you can find out more here-

£15 could provide a companion to drive a deafblind person to a social group.

£30 could provide a companion to visit a deafblind person to have a day out.

£45 could train a volunteer companion in communicating with deafblind people in social groups.
