Dementia care training for the Team.

We today had a presentation by our colleague Rachel Efetha. Rachel has recently undergone training through the Alzheimer’s Society on raising awareness about Dementia. The presentation was interactive and even included a game of Bingo!

The presentation reminded us of these five key messages:

1. Dementia is not a natural part of ageing
2. Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain
3. It’s possible to live well with dementia
4. Dementia is not just about losing your memory – it can affect thinking, communication and doing everyday tasks
5. There’s more to a person than the dementia

After undertaking the training we can now all call ourselves “Dementia Friends” and wear our badge with pride. We also individually pledged to turn our understanding into actions. This was anything, from volunteering, to staying in touch with someone we know living with dementia.
