Intern Philippa Barrett: Week one.
By Philippa Barrett, intern at Anstee & Co.
After graduating earlier this year in June I wanted to get some work experience under my belt to gain an insight into how the advisor industry works before I begin to pursue my financial career. This week is my first of four at the Anstee & Co office in Kettering during which time I have already substantially expanded my knowledge of financial design. Even now, I have been exposed to most services that the company offer.Having the opportunity to work with the management, investment and mortgage team, not to mention shadowing Caroline in various meetings.
A large part of my learning has come from the seminars, this week held by Royal London on pensions and Utmost Wealth Solutions who spoke about trusts. Prior to these seminars I found the topics to be quite intimidating but the sophisticated lecturers soon gave me a broad understanding of what the services are, how they are constructed and why it is so crucial to be done correctly. It was great to see what support and information the advisors have access to on a weekly basis.
This weeks highlight.
The highlight of my week was accompanying Caroline on a meeting with a new client outside of the office where they spoke about the client’s situation, objectives and the potential options available to them. The main point I grasped from the meeting was that the clients are looking for cost transparency, tax efficiency and flexibility alongside a trusting client-advisor relationship. Being in contact with clients was a privilege since those conversations cannot be read in text books-there is no better way to learn than to be amidst all the action!
Next week I hope to follow the process of the new clients through the office so I can master how all the teams in the office are interlinked.
