An overview on the implications so far on your investments.
It was predicted that there would be a huge impact on the UK economy following the vote to leave the EU, sometimes referred to as Brexit, but so far this does not appear to be the case. Most investments have remained unaffected.
Recent figures from the Office for National Statistics showed that the economy had grown slightly in the three months post-Brexit, although their surveys also showed that many small businesses seem more pessimistic about the future than before the vote.
The pound fell dramatically after the Brexit result and was at a three-year low against the Euro. It also plunged against the US dollar. This means that imported goods will get more expensive and some increases are already becoming apparent. However, one beneficial effect of the fall is that the weak pound makes the UK an attractive destination for foreign visitors, thus boosting tourism.
Brexit will be a drawn-out process which will be triggered by the Article 50 negotiations, due to be invoked in March next year. This will signal the start of a two-year long series of political discussions leading to the UK’s exit, although it is predicted that finalising all the related issues will take many more years to complete. A complicated and uncertain road lies ahead for the UK on its journey to leave the EU.
