Last year through our golf day we raised over a £1,000 for the charity Serve.
SERVE the Northamptonshire based charity, were looking to raise money for a new purpose-built bathroom for people who are elderly or have disabilities. Their hard work paid off recently with the opening of this new facility in Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire.
The new bathroom cost £15,500 and has been built in a former storeroom at the Serve Therapy Centre Higham Ferrers. Old water tanks and shelving had to be removed to create the space needed. The bathroom includes a low bath and a hydraulic chair lift to help people get into and out of the bath easily. A track hoist is also due to be installed shortly when a bracket being flown in from Norway arrives.
Serve is based in Rushden, Northamptonshire. Its aim is to help ensure that everyone who wishes to remain in their own home, irrespective of their age or disability, is enabled to do so. They provide a range of services to help people stay fit and healthy and enjoy the independence that living in your own home provides.
This charity project was funded by donations.
The new bathroom has been paid for by numerous donations from local business and people, including money from the Happy Feet line dancing group based in Rushden, who attended the official opening.
Jess Slater, general manager for Serve, said-
“The new bathroom is designed for people with disabilities or the elderly. It can be booked for £14 per hour. This covers the cost of the specialist facilities as well as a carer”.
Bookings can be made by calling the care department (01933 315555) at Serve’s offices on Church Street, Rushden, Northamptonshire.
