Congratulations to Barnes Gladman on his exam success of recently completing the CII Advanced Unit AF8 on Retirement Income Planning. The unit was made up of 3 essay assignments between 2500 to 3000 words each. Provided with a case study and fact find, the assignments required analysis and evaluation of the client’s current financial arrangements, tax position, together with their short- and long-term objectives. Utilising all areas of financial planning, the final essay concluded with recommendations being made to achieve the client’s goals and objectives in retirement.
Each assignment was marked out of 100, with the pass mark being 50%. Candidates have 12 months to complete all 3 assignments.

“We are all very proud that Barnes has completed this very challenging unit. The knowledge gained is key when advising “at retirement” and “post-retirement” clients. Barnes has done this all in his own time, while still supporting me and our clients. Well done and keep up the good work. Here is to more exam success!”
The CII’s explanation of the unit and its objectives.
Firstly, the objective of Retirement Income Planning (AF8) is to develop and demonstrate the advanced skills needed for advising on income planning to those in and approaching retirement.
The growing complexities of planning in retirement have resulted in an increase in the number of people seeking advice, many of whom have no previous experience in the advice or investment market.
In response to this increased demand for advice and suitably focused qualifications, the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), in consultation with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and other relevant parties, has enhanced its offering for advisers who wish to become specialists in the at-retirement and post-retirement markets.
Barnes Gladman, Financial Designer Support said-
“Passing this unit (AF8) has awarded me 30 credits at the Advanced Level. To become a Chartered Financial Planner, which is my aim, I need to achieve 290 credits. I currently have 225 credits and require 65 more. Now that I have passed, I am looking at the Trusts module next, to develop my technical knowledge in this area.”
