adult couple who have financial planningBy Rachel Efetha, Chartered Financial Planner

At our recent company meeting, Managing Director, Caroline Anstee, asked us all, what we do.  Some of the responses from the financial planning team were:-PFS logo

  • We make peoples goals and aspirations come true
  • Give peace of mind and financial security
  • Act as a counsellor
  • Change peoples lives
  • Sort out problems
  • Educate

The outdated stereotype of ‘the man from the Pru’ selling a pension or life assurance policy is so far removed from modern-day Financial Advice.  Whilst putting in place a pension might be how we achieve ‘making peoples goals and aspirations come true’, the true value of what we can add is by helping our clients to plan: –

  • what they want to do in retirement
  • when they want to do it
  • how much income and capital they need to do it
  • what plans have they already got in place and are they fit for purpose
  • how much additional retirement savings do they need to put in place

A true financial planning story.

My clients, Jack & Jill (not their real names!) had been putting money away in various pensions throughout their working life, and now, five years away from potential retirement, needed to know what it all meant to them in pounds and pence.

They didn’t have the foggiest whether they would be able to achieve this but with cash flow planning I was able to tell them that not only could they very comfortably achieve it, but they could consider retiring in three years and achieve all they wanted.  They are actually happy to work the full five years, and possibly go on more than one £20,000 cruise with the excess income they will have!

I then gave them the good news that not only were they on target to achieve what they wanted, but their existing schemes were all fit for purpose in terms of charges, fund performance and matching their risk profile so there was no need to tinker with any of their existing schemes.

Because we charge a fee for the planning we do for clients, I was still remunerated for the advice I had given them, and they were more than happy to pay for the peace of mind I had given them.
